What can be done to reduce swollen turbinates?

Look for a cause: First, looking for a potential cause - and removing it could solve the problem. Dust, mites, seasonal changes can cause these symptoms. If that doesn't help, steroid nasal inhalers could provide some relief. Do not us over the counter decongestants as they could worsen the problem. Ear nose and throat specialist will be able to guide you through this step wise and determine the right treatment.

Antihistamines: Swollen turbinates occur due to infection of allergy. If it is due to infection you may need antibiotics. If it is due to allergies then you can use antihistamines. Frequent use of nasal saline can also help. If this is not taking care of the problem then your doctor may prescribe a nasal steroid to reduce the inflammation.

Decongestant: a decongestant and an antihistamine may help. It would also help to get to the allergic cause of the swollen turbinates and eliminate common causes such as dust mites, mold, cat or dog dander...etc. Best to eliminate the underlying cause than to just treat the symptoms.
