It could be a hernia: Technically stretch marks can not get a hernia, but you could have a hernia below a stretch mark.  A hernia occurs whenever the fascia of the abdominal wall comes apart to allow tissue to bulge through below.  The fact that you have a red and painful bump suggest a possible abscess.  I recommend you see a doctor.

mesh repair ing hernia 18m ago. at times discomfort in area. surgeon says repair ok, rec. stretching, but gave no stretches. any stretch suggestions?

Stretching: I am enthusiastic about water exercises in general. Water aerobics in a pool, just swimming laps, etc. Also some of the more gentle yoga classes would help (Talk with the instructor first).  Bad DOC, BAD go to your corner;)

was recovering very well from umbilical hernia mesh repair 4 weeks ago, masterbated the other day now site very painful when stretching, bending ??? could that have done damage

Unlikely: as the repair was done 4 Wks ago  , collagen tissue already formed which keep the mesh in place , hoe ever call your surgeon for a follow up appointmennt  do not do any heavy activity till your surgeons clears

"Cause," no.: At 130 days it's either a successful fix, or it's not. Pain without bulge is probably related to adhesions more than to hernia recurring.

The cough: You need to find out what is causing the cough and if the cough is persistent  talk to your doctor who may prescribe a cough medicine for you.  Perhaps the scarring at the incision site has made the area more sensitive to pain but you really need to call this to the surgeon's attention if this persists after you have recovered from the cough.

Possibly: This  would be an unusual practice but it is possible. The main problem would be scheduling to different physicians schedules. As well, this would likely add cost, as the cost of operating room time is significantly more than the cost of outpatient GI procedure room time.

Why do you want : Start smoking , if you are able stop due to surgery , don't start. Most of the people after surgery will resume normal activities in  4 wks , if you consider smoking as normal activity , doctors will not.

If Complications: If not causing pain or physical problems, abdominal hernias are generally well tolerated. Many patients wait until symptoms are sufficient to warrant repair. That said, hernias can become "incarcerated" (stuck) causing pain, redness, nausea and is a real surgical emergency. If your hernia is easily reducible, not causing trouble, not worsening rapidly, it is reasonable to wait on your repair.

Probably yes: Because you can exercise more and burn calories that you would otherwise not.  But only indirectly.
