OSTEOARTHRITIS: Children who have hip dysplasia commonly develop osteoarthritis in the hips at an early age.  This needs to be treated with medicine and/or with physical therapy.  Despite aggressive medical management, young adults with your history may ultimate require total hip replacements.  You need to see you physician to set up treatment

Examination needed: Multiple causes are possible. You could be complaining of a painful snapping hip (psoas tendon or iliotibial band are common culprits). Internal joint damage is also possible: tears of the labrum or joint cartilage can cause intermittent painful catching. A thorough examination by your pcp or orthopaedic surgeon will likely lead to e answer for your hip.

will my hip popping at 30 affect my joint when i'm older?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: It depends on the cause of the popping.  You can have a condition called a snapping hip that is usually caused by tendons or muscles snapping over bony prominences in the hip area.  These conditions do not cause permanent damage that would affect you when you are older.  If the popping is due to something loose in the joint (a loose body) that could affect you if not removed.

Weight has a: great effect on joints and even a ten pound difference can make a huge difference in the forces on a joint. Joints have the ability to repair or heal if the problem has not gone too far. but even a  joint that has reached a point of no full return to a perjury status can benefit from reduced force ( weight) all day and everyday.

it would be : Good to rule out ehlers danlos variant that causes joint hyper mobility/ hyper flexibility with frequent dislocations. Ask your doctor.

No worry if no pain: I typically don't worry about painless popping and cracking of joints, even if asymmetric. Painful popping does need a physician evaluation.

Medical evaluation: You have many complaints that can suggest many problems and beyond the scope of this space. Muscle weakness can come from inflammatory muscle disease and lab testing and a full neurologic exam. Arthritic conditions such as rheumatoid can cause joint pain but also muscle pain. Problems in the spine such as disc narrowing can cause some of these issues. Again you need a full workup by a provider

A couple of things: There are a couple things to consider. It may be hey tendon that slides when you move your hips. Sometimes people can have dislocation of their joint but this is a big joint and that's unusual. This is something you discuss with your physician.

Get an xray: At the tender age of 22, osteoarthritis woulld be unusual unless it were traumatically induced. Another possiblity would be avascular necrosis, but a simple xray should be determinate. If everything is normal, then physical therapy would be a consideration.

Accepted Answer

Nothing: You have some inflammation there and it will pop for a bit. Sometimes Motrin for the pain. If it continues see an orthopedic surgeon.
