how to function without a galbladder. what food to eat &not eat?

Accepted Answer

Function well: The gallbladder stores bile.  Without it, the bile dribbles into the intestine with larger amounts released when you eat- but not as much or robustly as with a normal gallbladder. Should be able to eat without restriction- but eat rich fatty foods slowly,  to allow enough bile to mix and emulsify the fat for absorption.  I place no other restrictions on my patients.

Some thoughts...: A vegan, ovo-vegetarian, lacto-vegetarian, and lacto-ovo-vegetarian are all types of vegetarians. Because some things (calcium, vit. D, vit. B12, protein) are harder to get if a vegetarian eats no egg or dairy, a vegan has a much harder time finding all the nutrients she needs to stay healthy. However, a lacto or ovo-vegetarian must be wise enough not to overeat fats from yolks and milk or butter.

Antioxidants, fish: Cold water fish for the dha (wild salmon, sardines, anchovies, mackerel (mackerel has heavy metals so don't eat too much of it).  Fish oil or krill oil does not pack the same dha as the fish does.  Anti-oxidants including turmeric, rosemary, grapeseed, fresh veggies including raw/uncooked) and the occasional glass of red wine.  Coffee good too. Avoid nicotine.

Not so simple: But, recommend healthy dietary intake to prevent medical problems such as diabetes which could promote future heart attacks and strokes.  In general, you want to avoid food additives such as aspartame, diet drinks, MSG, GMO's, get regular exercise and good sleep.  A registered dietician can help you design you food intake.

: While chloride is important but it is not as vital as other ingredients eg sodium. Fats . Also it is not possible to add the list of All ingredients on the package.

Is complex and includes both location in the brain and neurotransmitters or chemical messengers, as well as actual experiences associated with memories of liked or disliked item just to name a few in 400 words.  It is a great question warranting repeating throughout your future as more ways of collecting information are invented and discovered.

Accepted Answer

No: Most "idiopathic nodular goiter" is probably caused by genetic mutations with little malignant potential. Diet won't affect it but suppressing the thyroid-pituitary system by giving supplemental thyroid may reduce the thyroid's size.

Diet: A healthy lifestyle diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, berries, nuts, extra virgin olive oil and omega 3 oils of walnuts and wild salmon are about the best you can do.

Thyroid and food: Non-fermented soy products ( tofu, soybeans) can inhibit thyroid function. Certain vegetables if eaten in large quantities could decrease thyroid function. These would include: broccoli,cabbage, spinach, cauliflower, lima beans, turnips, corn and sweet potatoes. Strawberries should be avoided and indeed peanuts and pine-nuts should also be avoided. These foods are known as goitrogens.
