how long does it take to get liver enzymes back to normal from taking any medicine ? had ultrasound was normal , no sign of fatty liver or anything ,so he thinks maybe few excedrine week before blood test? had baby 2.5 months ago and not obese?

: Congratulations on your baby! Usually liver enzymes return to normal within a couple weeks of stopping the medication, if that is the cause. If the enzymes remain elevated your doctor will search for other causes of elevated liver enzymes.

More hype than data: Active ingredient in milk thistle (silymarin) helps when given IV in animals-limited data in humans. Oral milk thistle isn't the same-limited absorption of silymarin. Lots of people use it however. Dandelion root similar limitations- is a diuretic (will make you pee). Find out cause of the elevated enzymes-infections (esp viral), meds, toxicities, autoimmune, alcohol, other. Rx underlying cause

: Such high enzyme levels indicate rather severe liver damage, such as acute hepatitis. Whether there is risk of permanent damage and ultimate cirrhosis depends on the cause, how long the problem has been present, and other factors. For example, potentially very different outcomes between viral hepatitis, alcohol, drug toxicity (like acetaminophen overdose), autoimmune, etc. Discuss w/ your doctor.

Depends on cause: Almost all people recover completely from hep a, about 80% recover fully from hep b, only about 20% recover fully from hep c. Other causes of hepatitis, such as cmv, mono are usually transient. Alcoholic hepatitis and non-alocholic steatohepatitis can lead to permanent damage, .

getting worried about my daily facial flushing. my palms also get warm and red. tsh levels are normal. liver enzymes slightly elevated. what could cause the flushing? too young for menopause?

: One possible cause may be an allergic reaction. Keep a log of the time of day and relationship of these symptoms to ingestion of certain foods. Other causes include variation in BP and temperature. Stay well hydrated and watch for signs of dizziness and fainting. Please see your PCP.

Maybe.: If the high elevation in liver enzymes was due to alcohol, there is a possibility that things can return to normal. There is also a possibility that it will not.  Liver enzyme abnormalities are very likely to recur with any alcohol use. Abstinence must be lifelong.

Need investigation: You may wish to repeat the test to make sure the result is correct. Bilirubin of 1.6 is elevated and it can be due to many causes, some harmless and others requiring treatment. Is this wise?: Most people who drink heavily enough to make themselves sick have lost self-control and are wisest not to touch the stuff again. The word 'alcoholic' carries a connotation that it's hard for the person to stop. Why play with fire? If in fact you just binge-drank and are over that stage in your life, your liver will be okay but get checked every so often. And think about being 'high on life.'
