Q: should i get bowel movements everyday?

NO: There really is not a " normal schedule" for everyone. If you are able to eat without bloating or pain, with good elimination of formed stool - do not become fixated on your bm frequency.

Q: why do you get involuntary bowel movements? what causes this?

Check with family dr: You probably need to increase water and fiber decrease caffeine but might need different stool softeners as well there are some more serious problems so i would check with your dr.

More fiber and water: You really need to review the foods you're eating daily -- this determines how well your bowel can function. You need plenty of vegetables, leafy greens, and fruits in your diet, along with plenty of water -- at least 8, 8 oz glasses of pure water daily. Probiotics are good, esp if containing &gt;one strain of "good" bacteria. Consider seeing a nutritionist re possible food sensitivities also.

Add in the fact that you are taking a opioid medication on top of that, and it can make matters worse. I would recommend a stool softener and sitz baths. If worsening symptoms, consult with you doctor.

Drink water: The most important thing is to get rehydrated.  One of the most under-appreciated causes of constipation is dehydration, which is common with the stomach flu.  Then, just eat balanced meals. If you still need help passing a bowel movement, try an over-the-counter stool softener or perhaps a glycerin suppository. If it's been 3 days or more, check with your doctor.

impacted: If you are having frequent hard stools, you are probably not completely emptying your rectum. You may need to take a laxative to clear your lower colon and rectum to reestablish a normal bowel routine. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) might  be agood choice. Take it in either the evening before bed or before breakfast.Go to the toilet after breakfast to try to get on a schedule.Any change in bm may need further evaluation.

Need work up: Persistant altered GI function need investigation to find the cause first examination by your doctor , simple sonogram to ct scan , upper and lower endoscopy  then will determine the cause and treat you , please visit your doctor.

Hard to say: Constipation (going <3 x week or with difficulty) has many causes, with diet and other medications you take playing a significant role in why you go so seldom. Discussing your medications with your doctor may help eliminate some of their side effects, boosting your fiber content and a thorough medical evaluation for things like low thyroid may shed some light as well.
