Cool compress: Try a running cold water over a clean washcloth. Wring it out to remove most of the water and then roll it up or fold it so that it can fit over your eyelids. Keep the cool compress there for a few minutes, take some deep breaths, relax, and things should improve. If there is still swelling but the compress has lost it's cool, repeat with more cold water. Cool compresses: Crying and emotional stress causes excess fluid to accumulate under the skin of the eyelids. Cool compresses (a wet washcloth wrapped around a piece of ice, for example) will constrict the small blood vessels under the skin and stop them from leaking water, allowing the fluid to reabsorb quicker. It will also help not to lie down, so less blood will rush to the face.

Combo: There may be more than this too: part is perhaps irritation from salty tears, part rubbing eyes, part the emotions behind the tears. The emotions activate the sympathetic nervous system which increases blood flow (among other things) and constricts muscles. Some of the puffiness is the additional blood and the swelling of facial muscles used by crying. It's almost as complicated as why we cry.

"Too much" means...: "Too much" means different amounts to different people. It would be really hard to cry often enough to permanently change the thickness or puffiness of one's eyelids. Of course, if a person were upset enough to be "crying all the time" she may have a psychological illness such as depression or anxiety, which would alter her facial expressions and appearance, because expressions come from within.

: It will go away on its own but it will take some time-likely a few hours. You can try putting some wet teabags on your eyes while closed. This tends to absorb the puffiness so your eyes will look less swollen faster. Sorry you were cheated on and I hope you feel better real soon!

It's hard to say if what you describe is related to the tooth abscess, a reaction to the antibiotics, something else, or a combination of these factors.
