Probably not: A new mass in a lymph node bearing area is usually a benign reaction.  However, because it is new, you need to see your doctor.  If it doesn't go away, (which may require antibiotics) you might need a biopsy to make sure it's not cancerous.

Intermittent heat packs: a wash cloth in warm (not scalding hot, microwaved or boiling) water can be placed on the site as often as the patient is able.  Once an abscess forms, drain.
