Many possibilities: The symptoms of pain and numbness during or after activity could be due to muscle strain, nerve irritation, or other causes. Best to check with your doctor to confirm the diagnosis and then develop a treatment plan.

Upper body: If you have a feeling that your foot is fractured or sprained you should see a doctor and get it diagnosed and treated. It is reasonable to use pain as your guide as to what you can do or not do.In general, upper extremity exercises can be done seated, and non impact activities like swimming are doable. Sprains usually heal in 2-6 weeks , fractures in 6-8 weeks. Once again pain is your guide.

my knees are giving me trouble so i've had to resort to using ellipticals. now the problem is that my toes/foot get numb. whats the issue?

NCV: Numbness can be a sign of nerve compression. I suggest getting a Nerve Conduction Velocity test of the lower extremity which will determine if such compression exists. This compression can be as high as your lower back.

You really: should consult with your surgeon. I would consider wearing an elastic anklet that goes over the foot to help control the swelling of the foot. Also, important to ice and elevate at the end of the day.

i was on the elliptical, i get on it barefoot. i think it's causing a vein pain on top of my foot. it feels like pressure on my vein and it hurts?

Needs evaluation.: A tender bulging vein suggests an inflammation of the vein which is called superficial thrombophlebitis.  This can be to localized trauma or to even a poorly fitting shoe. Whether or not the pain is the cause of your discomfort, you should be evaluated by a vein specialist.  The foot pressure that you feel may not be due to veins at all but to something else.

Pathology or shoes: Numbness during or immediately after activity could be either a poor shoe fit or sizing vs nerve pathology, pinch or neuroma...Start with a really good sport store for sizing and shoe recommendations...If proper fit is established then a neuroma, benign nerve tumor may exist.

i sprained my little toe/foot 3 weeks ago. still is giving me problems. wearing shoes is extremely painful yet, i was given a shoe boot to wear, no break x-ray was normal i got my toe caught under the foot of an elliptical and tripped. what can i do?

Sprained toe ?'s: Any "sprain" of a joint, even in a toe will take weeks to completely heal, and any strenuous activity may aggravate the sprain and extend the time of healing, remaining uncomfortable.  Ask your physician about taking ibuprofen or a similar non-narcotic medication.
