Tests: Most liver disease can be suspected or diagnosed with the use of blood tests and imaging using ct scan and/or ultrasound. The exact diagnosis may require liver biopsies. In my experience liver disease is almost always diagnosed with the use of these modalities and with the skill of hepatologists.

Fatty liver: I presume the diagnosis was made by your doctor.
If he/she has not fully explained this to you it would be wise to make another visit so you have a better understanding.

If you have not seen a liver specialist  (gastroenterologist) about this you must have your doctor refer you.

Depends: Your doctor will choose a diagnostic test based upon what he or she thinks the diagnosis is. For example, if they suspect viral hepatitis, a simple blood test will suffice. Sometimes a needle biopsy may be needed. Ouch!

For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

: ANI can be done easily with the basic blood test results so if a person has a history of alcohol intake, ANI should be done when we encounter an overweight patient with history of alcohol use and hepatic steatosis is diagnosed. As my previous answer, this number may help to differentiate if patient has ALD or NAFLD because the treatment is completely different.
