Depends: Depends on the type of virus, you can catch the virus right away however show no symptoms right away depending on the virus incubation time ( the time you catch it to the time you become symptomatic).

However, one can feel safer if the sick person wakes up on Day 5 without any symptoms the preceding 4 days. If unlucky, she can still catch a virus and come down with the illness. Food poisoning is usually less contagious, but depends on the bacteria type.

Wash your hands: The stomach flu is spread by fecal-oral route.  It sounds gross, but happens a lot.  If you touch a surface - like a toilet bowl, or faucet handle where someone who just used the bathroom also touched, and then put your hand to your mouth.....you get it.  It can be as simple as turning off the faucet after you washed your hands - the same faucet someone turned on before washing theirs.

No real guarantees: Contagiousness varies among different "stomach viruses" and among different people, so is not easily predictable. However, one can feel safe if it is 6 days after exposure. Most people would have shown symptoms by days 2-4. If unlucky, really unlucky, one can still come down with the illness. The only things guaranteed in life are "death and taxes."
