Evaluation Needed: You should go to a dentist that is trained in treating tmj/tmd symptoms.  Also you can consider other treatment modalities for your sleep apnea such as oral appliances.

is it normal to become really congested while using cpap with built-in humidifier? every night i have to keep blowing my nose and use saline spray

Nasal CPAP: It is possible that there are irritants or particles in the CPAP apparatus that are triggering an allergic response. If it is humidified, unlikely to be a moisture issue. You might need to clean or replace.

last 2 months i have been getting lots of nose bleeds.  i use cpap with humidifier and run a personal humidifier.  is there a concern 4 cancer or othe?

Need investigation: You need work up from BP to for any blood problem, irritation  due to cpap.

bmi normal sleeptest show mild sleep apnea to moderate(at rem&supine position) the recommendations on test are autocpap,humidifier,ent visit.but i visited a pulmonary dr other than the dr who made the report,he said no need for cpap.what should i do?

: Your call. You could rent a CPAP machine &amp; have it programmed by the doc who treats you. Try it for 2-3 weeks and if it makes a difference in your life continue. It may take a week or so to decide which device (nasal/face mask) is best tolerated. If not, take the equipment back.

my cpap machine humidifer calls for distilled water but could i just boil water and use it instead?

Ideally no but ok: Distilled water or highly filtered water is recommended for humidifier so as not to get minerals deposited in machine or on reservoir wall.  Boiling water does ensure it is clean and free of bacteria which is good.  It does also rid some of minerals but it does not distill it, leaving heavy minerals like calcium still left in there.  Once in a while probably okay but otherwise, better off w/dist.

using a cpap, understand  distilled water the way to go. child uses distilled with minerals added for taste on formula.  ok for me to use in cpap?

Distilled water: Pure distilled water is best. The minerals are filtered out and may clog your filter on the CPAP requiring you to change the filter more often or maybe even interfering with the air flow.

my mother has sleep apnea and falls during the day. her oxygenation drops at night to 60%. why would they avoid adding oxygen to her cpap & daytime?

Constant high CO2: One of the reasons that a physician might avoid giving her o2 is that it may stop her breathing. Our main way to control breathing is through sensing of co2. If a person has had a constantly high level of co2 over times due to  any respiratory disease, then their body sees that level as normal. Sudden drop in that co2 level can lead to not breathing at all. Please consult your pcp for more info.

Review with doc 1st: Although this would seem to be an obvious help, please review your plans with someone who knows your case. Part of what keeps you breathing is the concentration of co2 in your blood and supplemental oxygen under the wrong circumstances could cause problems with your natural breathing drive system.

when an 18m old is sick and congested is a humidifier helpful or should i use de-humidifier. someone told me adding moisture makes it worse?

Mgt: It really depends on the illness, but in general a cool mist humidifier can relieve swelling in the nose and airway, providing some relief.

i had some tea a few hours ago, with pure menthol added. it was quite strong, and i have stomach cramps now. is this a problem that needs treating?

Accepted Answer

Only if persists: If the pains do not subside in a couple of hrs or the pain worsens would get checked out.
