i missed last day (2 pills) of my three day antibiotic course to my uti. there has been now two day gap when i havent taken the pills. antibiotic is nitrofurantoin. no symptoms anymore. what should i do? is antibiotic resistance likely to happen?

: If you are OK don't worry. No resistance will happen. don't take the rest. Drink plenty of fluids and empty your bladder when you get the urge and keep the urinary area clean. You will be OK

Probably not a UTI: There are many causes of urinary pain and frequent urination.  A common cause is bacterial infection (UTI) but when antibiotics do not improve symptoms, you either have an antibiotic-resistant infection (would be shown on urine culture) or the cause is simply not a bacteria.  It's too involved to describe here, but try looking up "Bladder pain syndrome," to see if it describes what you are feeling

Be : Be confident that your doctor is doing the right thing. The urine culture that was done shows which antibiotics will work and which will not against the bacteria that is causing the infection. If you were put on Nitrofurantoin again then I am sure the culture showed that the bacteria was sensitive to it. Recurrent uti's are very common in pregnancy, and the fact that you took the antibiotic before does not mean it will not work this time.

Pediatric UTI: This sounds like a job for a pediatric urologist.  There are many possibilities, and you have not provided sufficient info for a diagnosis to be made. A 4 yr old needs to be fully evaluated, not only for possible causes, including anatomic defects, but also for the possibility of abuse. See a good pediatrician and get a recommendation.

See below: The most important course of action is make sure the diagnosis of UTI is correct by obtaining both a urinalysis and urine culture (C/S). The latter will verify if a UTI is still present, identify the specific bacteria, and identify which antibiotics it is sensitive to. There are other conditions which can mimic a UTI. If recurrent UTI, further testing and long-term antibiotics may be necessary.
