Depends: It depends on the type of cancer and stage at the time sof diagnosis. If it is a non-aggressive form, it may take months or sometimes years to recur. If the tumor is very aggressive or advanced at the time of diagnosis, it is much more likely to recur quickly.

Bladder tumors: Are usually found in middle and older age pateint, presenting with gross or microscopic blood in the urine. Some are 'superficial' not penetrating into muscle, and penetrate later into muscle. Not all progress, but some do. Instilled treatments are used first, but if muscle invasive, bladder removal is treatment of choice.

Not common: Bladder cancer typically spreads to regional lymph nodes around bladder first.  At advance stages, it may progress and spread to other abdominal organs (liver, prostate, vagina, uterus, urethra, etc.) but typically not brain.

my brother had chemo for his bladder cancer which spread to the bones. how is that possible?

Ask his Physician: You need to get more information about your brother bladder cancer. Please find out if his bladder cancer is curative or he already has document metastatic disease. You should also get the most recent radiographic imaging of his disease status. 
 If he has bone metastasis then he should be treated with either zometa or xgeva (denosumab) for his bone treatment.  He may need radiation therapy or chemotherapy.

Unlikely: Bladder cancer can be a very aggressive type of cancer. If it has already spread to surrounding structures and organs, it is an aggressive cancer and has metastasized. Once this occurs, the long-term prognosis is very poor.

can lumps of bladder cancer that have spread to my lungs be removed with surgery?

Accepted Answer

No: From a surgical perspective, they can be removed.  However, in reality this is not an option as the cancer has spread to the lynmph nodes outside of the pelvis.  At this point, surgery is no longer an option but rather chemotherapy is the mainstay of treatment to help kill and treat the cancer.

Probable bladder met: CLL usually remains dormant for long periods.  Ive had several patients with bladder Ca with mets to brain.  Prior to treatment of the primary bladder lesion which can control disease either by fulguration and or BCG  some tumor cells may have invaded blood system.  Cells in blood have reservoir in bone marrow and as such 6 mo. after primary treatment cells leave marrow to implant in brain

how often does bladder cancer come back? after successful bladder cancer treatment, is it common for it to come back? can it grow back as a metastatic cancer even after having your whole bladder removed?

This : This depends on a number of factors.  The grade of the tumor ( how malignant the cells are ), the stage of the tumor ( how deeply it is growing into the bladder wall ) and the number of tumors all play a part.  For the most common type of low grade non-invasive cancer it will recur in approx 50-65% of patients.  Recurrence rates for higher grade tumors can be even higher.

After bladder removal a bladder cancer can appear in another place only if it was there prior to the surgery but was not detected by the testing done for metastasis.

i have bladder cancer and have recently been having a lot of back pain around kidneys.is it possible the cancer has spread.no insurance to see doctor?

Bladder cancer : Your pain could be from something as simple as muscle strain or an upper urinary tract infection. But with a history of bladder cancer you certainly need to be checked out by a physician as soon as possible.
