It would also help to know what your lab test results were.

Accepted Answer

No: Alprim is a sulfa antibiotic. I have done drug screening for twenty years and I am unaware of sulfa antibitotics having any cross reactivity with drug tests. Make sure you let the testes know you are or have recently taken the test.

Infection: You likely have an infection with an enlarged reactive lymph node behind your ear.  This needs to be further evaluated, perhaps even biopsied to make sure this isn't some kind of tumor.  If it is infectious the headaches might indicate chronic meningitis (not likely, but scary if true) so don't delay getting checked out.

Talk with your  Dr.: This really needs to be discussed with your doctor who is aware of your symptoms, history, physical examination and other study results. Blood cultures often show what organism was grown as well as which antibiotics they are resistant to and which they are sensitive too.

i just got the blood test for genetic testing, most for brca gene. i totally forgot that i've been on antibiotics for an ear infection for a few days. i called to tell them but still haven't heard back. would this interfere with the test?

Why not: You can check blood any time, but is it necessary? Why do you want to check blood for your baby? Does his pediatrician order it?

Not at all: Go right ahead. Your physician knows about the antibiotic and it should not be a factor.

+ PPI?: 2 antibiotics plus a ppi drug like Omeprazole work about 85% of fhe time. Blood test means  past exposure, not necessarily current infection.  Breath or stool test can tell if infected, or cured. Will need to be off ppi and antibiotics for 4-6 weeks to tell.

What for?: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, from the information you provided it is not feasible to know if the person has any disease. What would you expect the antibiotics to do?

what is the definitive blood test for spinal meningitis. if it's spread to tissue how is it best treated? can it be treated with oral antibiotics?

Meningitis = bad: Meningitis is an infection of the lining of the central nervous system and is diagnosed by a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) to test the spinal fluid for infection.  No blood test will do it.  It generally doesn't spread to tissue unless there are septic emboli, and that would mean the patient was deathly ill.  Usually it would need IV antibiotics for some time for this life threatening issue.
