can a head x ray show tumors in the head thanks?

Sometimes: But not very often. With x-rays, the accepted technique is to have the smallest views possible so as to not give excess x-ray to the patient.  This results in most of the neck not being seen in a head x-ray study. The neck is also a complex area of the body, and tumors in the neck are much better seen with a CT or MRI study with contrast injected.

my grandson fell backwards and hit the lower back part of his head and it swelled into bump right away, should we take him for an x-ray ?

Need more info...: If your grandson fell and got a swollen area but cried immediately, acted normal, isn't vomiting, and is acting fine now then there isn't likely a need for further evaluation.  IF there is any other issue, concern, behavior change, or worsening of the swelling have him seen.  If you are concerned - an evaluation can also be very helpful to allowing you to feel better yourself.

hello! i did an x-ray of the head for the orthodontist. the nurse put the auto mode with smallest radiation: 8 mgy*cm2. however, when the exam was over, the machine showed 17 mgy*cm2. why did it change? how many msv did i get? thank you so much?

: It is possible that the default dosage is 17 on that machine. It is unknown what your actual dosage was, but have no fear, no damage occurred.

Yes but ...: You always have to ask why is any given test being done? What is being searched for? Is this the best way to do it or is there a better way to get the answer? I don't know enough about your child to answer those questions now but that is what you want to find out. X-Ray machines these days use much lower doses than they did in the past.

Ask your Dr.: He has examined you and has something he is looking to rule in or out.  Since we have not examined you, it would be pure supposition on our part to guess what he is doing the X-ray for.

can an x-ray of the head and neck after a carwreck pick up carotid blockages?

No: A plain x-ray may show calcification but it will not be able quantify stenosis in the carotid artery . A ct angiogram on the other hand will  definitely be able to see "blockages". Other common test to evaluate the carotid arteries are ultrasonography ( carotid duplex).

Need more info: Your symptoms are very broad. I would need to know what kind of xray was done. Also where is the stiffness?
Which symptom is the worst?
Is the heaviness in your chest or your arms/legs?

Not likely.: While more and specific information would be required regarding your symptoms, without significant spinal degeneration, deformity, and/or fracture, static cervical spine x-rays are unlikely to reveal the source of your neck and head pain, especially if the only finding by the radiologist is "prominent transverse processes" as these have likely been there for your entire life.

No comparison: Dental x-rays do concentrate in the area the beam is pointed, that is true. However the damaging effects of radiation are cumulative. Spending a day at the beach will expose you to more radiation over a larger area of your body than having dental x-rays once a year. A lead apron with a thyroid collar is also used to protect your body when taking dental x-rays. As the cliche goes, apples to oranges
