Sometimes: But not very often. With x-rays, the accepted technique is to have the smallest views possible so as to not give excess x-ray to the patient. This results in most of the neck not being seen in a head x-ray study. The neck is also a complex area of the body, and tumors in the neck are much better seen with a CT or MRI study with contrast injected.

Which kind ? : To get the most from this site you need to provide detailed information on a health issue & then ask a question. X-ray as a term can mean a simple skull film or a detailed CT scan with contrast. Simple x-rays show gradations of density. Bone is thicker than tissue so it shows bones well. Tumors are usually soft tissue and may not show on simple films. CT scans can be manipulated to show density
