Almost none!: Many people weigh 3 to 5 pounds lighter the day of their colonoscopy, but almost all the change is in loss of fluids, not body mass.  As soon as you resume normal hydration and diet, the pounds return.

in the likely event that i will lose a considerable amt. of weight after my colonoscopy, will it be possible to keep some o it off with relative ease?

Probably not: Weight loss from fasting or clear liquid diets as well as colon cleansing vary dramatically among individuals. These days, in order to maximize the chances of a clean colon and good exam, endoscopists will recommend 2 or more days of clear liquids first. The resulting weight loss from all this might range from 3 to 7 pounds. But it's a LOT of water weight. Few experience permanent weight loss:)

is it true that some people get colonoscopies, just to lose weight or get them because they can't go poop for a while..?

Not to lose weight: I am not aware of colonoscopies being performed for weight loss purposes. However worsening constipation in the right clinical context is an indication for diagnostic colonoscopy.

had a colonoscopy 3 years ago and had 14 polyps, 2 were adenomas. had another colonoscopy 1 year ago and had 6 polyps. 1 was an adenoma. im losing weight now quit smoking and am eating healthy. is it possible for the amount of polyps to be even less?

: Yes you can develop more polyps which then must be removed. The goal is to be free of anymore polyps over the next 5 years. Follow the recommendations from your gastroenterologist as to when you should get  your colon check done next?. I would favor another Colonoscopy in 2-3 years time.

i have been tired, irritable, and can't seem to lose weight. i have been working out 5 days week eating about 1600 calorie diet. i have celiac disease and i am eating a gluten free diet, just had a colonoscopy that was normal.

I : I am glad you have had a medical evaluation.  Please be sure you are drinking plenty of fluids to flush out your system.  Also please be sure you have had your thyroid hormones tested.  If you continue your symptoms, please be seen by your physician to have a complete evaluation.

i lost 220lbs naturally. the more weight i lose, the more issues im having. they found an umbilical hernia on my ct. im having an endoscopy/colonoscopy tomorrow. could it be the loose skin pressing on my bowel that is causing the bloat/discomfort?

: The skin is external. The bowel is internal. They do not interact. Bloating &amp; discomfort probably has nothing to do with external skin. I would just follow through with your GI doctor's evaluation at this time.

Mostly water: The weight lost during preparation for colonoscopy is mostly water and could be gained back in one day. However if the weight loss is due to some pathology for which colonoscopy was done, then it would depend on the pathology.

Unlikely, but . . .: Prior to colonoscopy, one has to drink lots of icky fluids to clean out bowel. As a result, one usually loses weight. OTOH 3# weight gain in one day could be from bloating unrelated to procedure. Or more likely, use of different scales at different times of day in different amounts of clothing. Be sure to pay more attention to how your clothes fit than actual weight (using same scale at same time)

i had a colonoscopy this morning. i weight 134 when i left my house. i just weight again this evening, i am at 138. is this due to the gas from the colonoscopy?

: Body weight tends to fluctuate throughout the day and sometimes between days due to fluid shifts as well as as food intake and bowel movements, and less likely due to procedural effects. Especially for those monitoring their weight or actively managing weight goals, it is best advised to weigh oneself at the same time everyday to track weight, ideally in the morning naked

Movement of gas: Given the information you provided, your sensation is likely to be due to movement of gas in the colon. You may try to vary your diet to see if that makes a difference. Drink enough water so that bowel contents do not become thick.
