Depends: The recommended dose for anemia in adults is 60-100 mg/kg of elemental iron  twice daily doses. The usual over the counter forms can have 12-33% of elemental  iron. A common form is Ferrous sulfate in 300 mg tablets that contain 60 mg of elemental iron. When used as a supplement to avoid anemia a single tablet daily may suffice &amp; is often recommended for menstruating women.

Depends: There are different formulations of iron that are available. The dosing and frequency depends on the amount of elemental iron that is available in these formulations. Some formulations are easier on the stomach than others.  Sometimes intravenous iron may be indicated to replenish iron stores. Please ask your doctor on the best way to investigate and treat your iron defeciency.

Ferritin? hematocrit: 'Slight anemia" is not a valid diagnosis. Exactly what lab values were reported? Do you have heavy menstrual bleeding? Are you a blood donor or have you lost blood in some way? Do you have low serum iron [ferritin]? There are many anemias, of which iron deficiency is only one. Or are you at the low end of normal? Your Dr owes you a better evaluation and discussion. The multivitamin is not relevant

No: A skin test would not be the same as side effects from taking a pill orally, particularly a medication that can cause stomach irritation or nausea. You will have to try the medication orally and hopefully will tolerate it well. I'm certain that your doctor's recommendation that you need iron to treat anemia is important, and i recommend trying the medication.

Months: Usually it may take a few months for all anemia symptoms to completely disappear after oral iron therapy, with intravenous iron therapy symptoms are resolved faster in 1-2 months.

: Adult male iron requirement is 8mg per day.  How much you should take  would be guided by your diagnosis and cause of anemia. It is best to stay on whatever dose your MD recommended to correct the anemia. But if you are self medicating pl. stop and see an MD

Depends: What is hemoglobin level? Do you have continuing bleeding disorder? It usually takes a couple of week for the effects of iron replacement to be apparent, if there is no ongoing blood loss. See this site for more info.
