BMI > 40: Body mass index of >40 or BMI > 35 with co-morbidities, double your ideal bmi, or 100 pounds above ideal bmi.
I have seen patients who are above 350 pounds have been asked to wait until they reach a goal of 350 pounds - so check with yur surgeon for guidelines.

Probably: You may pass the test, but your lungs will not have recovered from the insult of tobacco and it may make recovery from anesthesia more difficult. It would be prudent to let your doctors know about your smoking history.

Most likely: You probably would but the road to weight loss surgery takes some dedication, often including meeting with a nutritionist, a psychologist, an exercise physiologist and even sometimes medication from your primary care doctor. If you are really: 7 years old, you should not be on HealthTap. If you are older, you MUST be overeating to weigh 250 pounds. If you do not have a medical condition, such as hypothyroidism, that can be treated -- you need intensive education in caloric restriction, increased physical activity and weight reduction.

Depends: Interesting question! it depends on the type of surgery you had. Typically, less aggressive modalities, such as lap band will produce gradual weight loss (a few lbs/week) and the band will/might need to be adjusted periodically. Roux en y and other more radical methods may cause substantial weight loss over a short period of time (1-3 months).

Burn more calories: Unfortunately, it's a simple math equation. You must burn more calories than you consume.  My suggestion is to keep a strict calorie count (several good apps can help) to see where your calories are coming from. Count everything you take in.  Reduce what you can, then burn more by walking farther, taking stairs instead of elevators, exercising 30 mins more each day.  You can do it!

Just eat less: Don't try any fancy, flashy short-term diet that you saw on tv or the internet. What you need is good quality food in reduced amounts and more exercise. You need to find a nutrition plan you can live with the rest of your life, not just days or months. Don't get your medical information from friends, tv or the internet.

Depends: Everything a physician does is potentially risky and decisions are determined by risk vs benefit. Your doctor must answer if your weight/related medical issues are riskier than  surgery? Furthermore are you behaviorally prepared to to make such a dramatic lifestyle change? You can completely negate the potential benefit if you do not work on behavior modification.
