SHORT TERM IT MIGHT: Long term not recommended.
Severely restricting diets fail because at some point in time you have to eat again.
Try this
1-write down everything you eat.
2-exercise 30 minutes daily
3- eat frequently, every 2-3 hrs a combo of 15-20 gms of complex carb with protein and fiber, small amount of good fats.
4- drink water as often as possible between and with meals.
5- do a liquid fast one day a month.

10 pounds a week: Despite what you hear on the TV, that is too much to lose in a week.

Levothyroxine: There are substances in cabbage that can work against the thyroid gland, but these are usually greatly diminished by cooking.  You can enjoy cabbage soup, but it should be a part of a healthy diet and not excessive.

Unproven: It is not likely that any diet changes would be harmful, however there is also little to no proof that diet helps.

Diet adjustment: Best is to cut down on the portions, then cut down on carbs (bread, pasta, potato, sugar, cereals), eliminate pop ( if you need the fizz then drink carbonated water). Also eliminate desserts. Drink unsweetened tea or coffee. Most importantly exercise.

1-2 pounds a week: Your intake should be reduced by approximately 500 -1000 calories a day so that you can safely lose 1-2 pounds a week. Exercise and be active most days of the week for at least 30 minutes a day, even if it is split up into three 10 minute intervals. This will increase your metabolism and help you lose weight as well.

Weight loss: To lose weight insure that calories burned exceed calories consumed. Drink at least 8  - 8 ounce glasses of water per day.  Aim for at least 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruit per day. Use whole grain when possible. Avoid sodas, alcohol & junk carbohydrates. Get in a good mix of aerobic & weight lifting exercises.

That's too fast.: We generally like people to lose no more than two pounds weekly - so at most you should lose six pounds in this time frame to make your weight loss meaningful and long lasting.  Losing too soon will likely cause you to gain it back eventually. Don't shoot yourself in the foot.  Be patient and make it last.
