: Check with your surgeon as sucking on cough drops may have adverse,inflammatory effects caused by their ingredients. He/she will recommend post op instructions.

Yes: Every calorie counts- cough drops containing sugar- taken in excess certainly add up. The sugar and possible alcohol in cold remedies would also add up depending on how much you took. I think it would be negligible calories if you took less than 5 cough drops a day.

Other idea: While sucking on cough drops is unlikely to be harmful and may help throat irritation, consider seeing a health care provider to assist in finding out why the sore throats are occurring.  With that information, it may be possible to prevent the sore throats in the first place.

my throat hurts in the morning and at night. i take a cough drop and the pain goes away. i'm always good for the rest of the day. why ?

AM throat pain: Could be reflux. Consider raising head of bed ( pillow under mattress), try ranitidine and or prevecid, avoid lots of coffee, soda, alcohol ,spicy food and smoking. Alternatively could be allergies with post nasal drip, elevating head of bed helps and try zyrtec/ before bedtime

i've had a sore throat for a year that occurs most of the day, especially at night and morning. it's not unbearable which is why i mostly just put up with it, and take cough drops. i'm uninsured and can't afford a doctor, what can i do?

: Florida is quite humid so I do not think low humidity is the culprit. If you are overweight, sleep apnea can be the cause. The other etiologies could be sinusitis with post nasal drainage or reflux. However, I still think you need to see  a doctor for checking your throat first for ruling out the obvious cause (make a deal with front office for paying cash, just request a quick throat exam).

a friend has sore throat and coughs a lot. i gave her 2 honey lemon+ menthol 7.5mg cough drops 2 days in a row (1 each day).i found out these cough drops expired two years ago. can these expired cough drops harm my friend's health?

Likely fine: They are likely not very effective or the taste could have been altered if they are old. Best is to still avoid taking them if the expiration date was a while ago.
