how many extra calories does the atkins diet burn? i know that fat is burned instead of carbs on the atkins diet, but how does that change the amount of calories burned?

Less calories: The important thing about the atkins diet is that you eat very little carbohydrate.  As a result you eat more fat.  For most people, fat is more satisfying in terms of feeling full than carbs.  As a result you eat fewer calories overall and lose weight.  Also, when fat is burned it produces ketones.  These suppress your appetite as well.  The amount of calories burned depends on your activity.

how accurate is the calorie count on my elliptical machine?? if i'm working out for 30+ minutes and the calories burned says 100, can i rely on that? i understand i must burn more than i consume, but how can i calculate my burn at 5'5", 185 lbs??

Calorie calculate: Get the app Cronometer and enter what you eat and exercise you do and see. 100 calories is about 1/2 Snickers.  You need to exercise more or eat fewer calories.  Simple in concept difficult in execution.

Many things: The same thing that causes chest burning at other times: angina, gastroesophageal reflux, gastritis, peptic ulcer, esophagitis, non-ulcer dyspepsia, cholecystitiis, fibromyalgia, costochondritis, and myo-fascial syndrome, to name a few.

Clarification: Is the burning at the tip of the penis or the entire head of the penis? Is the burning constant or intermittent? Is there discoloration in the area of the burning? When did this first start? I am happy to help, however it requires additional information.

Nothing good: Depending upon how extreme these things are, even death is possible. Certainly healthy development will be thwarted. Nothing good will come of it unless the child has DM-type I and these behaviors are very mild and thus not really qualify for the description. It can hold blood sugar down. Don't do it!

From 500 - 750: Bikram yoga burns about 3 time as much as hatha; and total calories burned depend on bodyweight - the heavier the individual, the higher ther calorie burn. Bikram is more aerobic in its activity than hatha, contributing to the burn. However, running at 6mph burns twice the calories of Bikram in the same time period.

No: Although temperature effects metabolic rate and sense of fatigue it does not do so enough to have any effect. The greater effect of running in hear is of dehydration and loss of sodium chloride and other ions.

Cardio Mix: If you adipose tissue that you'd like to lose then consider an increase in cardio and a balanced diet. However, do not always do the same exercise or you will increase your risks for stress injuries. Mix things up with running, biking, swimming, or circuit training. Core exercises may build muscle, but to burn fat you need to burn more than you consume and cardio is key!
