Shd not depend on it: Asthma tts have gotten very good and in most cases there are excellent inhalers that if used regularly control asthma very well .In this case you should see a pulmonary specialist.besides repeated courses of steroids can have many serious side effects.

i take uloris 40 mg 1 x a day for 5 months.uric acid went from 9.9_to 4.i am having a flare.my doctor wants me to take prednisone which made me feel terrible before.will the flare,stop on it's own if i don't take the prednisone will it last longer?

: The gout flare is most often self limited without treatment. Treatment with NSAID, colchicine or prednisone will alleviate the inflammatory pain and probably shorten the course. You can choose no treatment if you are afraid of medication adverse effect and you can tolerate the pain. By the way, is colchicine or NSAID contraindicated in your case because you have kidney disease?

No.: Corticosteroids are catabolic drugs, which means they enhance tissue breakdown.  Your pain might be eased, but you would be doing yourself harm for your exercise goals for whatever sporting activities you engage in.

Wean off: Slowly.  Though not a overly high dose. Still want to wean slowly off.  30 mg day for week -10 days. Then 20. Etc.  could even do it slower.    It could cause adrenal gland to not work properly.  Cause extreme fatigue.  Jt pains  body aches.  To name. Few.  Call your doctor to set up weaning protocol.

Gout: You will also need diet modification and avoiding alcohol. If increased flare ups continue your doctor may add a urocsuric drug.

Not enough info: To answer this question one would have to know why you are taking Prednisone in the first place.  That said,  it is likely there would be no problems stopping such a low dose for 24 hours.

Many issues: There are a lot of issues we need to know to answer that question. Why you taking it? Sometimes Prednisone is given intermittently. Sometimes people need to slowly tsper it especially if they been on it a long time. The fact that you have been off it without a problem may mesn you don't need to take it anymore.
