To be sure: It can take more than several weeks for some people to develop an antibody to HIV, but less than 3 months. So by retesting at 3 months or later there would be little or no chance of missing that a particular person has acquired the virus.

Wait: An early test might show hiv, but you really can't know for sure until 3-6 months unfortunately. Get tested now but also get the 3 and 6 month tests. If you think this was a high risk exposure you should also be tested for other stds as well as hepatitis b ; c which can be transmitted sexually.

i had a negative home access express hiv test 11 months after oral sex i gave to a male.    
my question is i didn't wait 30 minutes (only a few) for for the sample to dry as the instructions stated as i was in a hurry. 
would that affect the result?
