i recently had an unprovoked dvt in my left arm, started on xarelto 1 week ago. how safe is it now to play golf? can it increase likelihood of clot moving to lung? better wait longer for xarelto to be in my system or is activity not a risk?

: Usually golf is not a contact sport so it is safe to resume playing. If your game is worse, you can’t blame the Xarelto.

It can: Weight training can improve your strength on your driving, but only practice will improve your putting.

Elbow pain: See your doctor.   It sounds like tendinitis.    You may get relief from a tennis elbow band.     If not, see your doctor.

Postpone!: While we are seeing the curve bend in certain areas of the world it is likely we have a couple months to go to start living our new normal. The high risk people have been mentioned as over 65 yo with chronic conditions but we are seeing plenty of younger adults quite ill. Postpone your trip for now.

Go for it: 8-12 weeks is about right - start with easy courses, few holes, build up slowly,  and stop if your incision hurts. (don't expect your game to have improved just because you've been revascularized!).

Probably golf: If you run a half mile you will burn approximately 50 calories.
If you walk a round of golf you will walk approximately four miles. Typically each mile
will burn approximately 100 calories for a 
total of 400 calories.

Accepted Answer

Bursitis: Possibly. If you are pain free with activities of daily living, try going to the driving range. If this does not flare up your symptoms, try 9 holes. Then progress to 18. If you are unable to golf without pain you may need physical therapy and/or a steroid injection.

Accepted Answer

Maybe: Some people can do ok with activities which dont involve cutting or pivoting. If your knee is giving out after a course of rehab the acl should be addressed.  Would lean toward reconstruction at 35 though.

can you play golf after a lumbar microdisectomy?

Accepted Answer

Most likely.: You should be able to play golf following microdiscectomy. It would be more predictable if you have no other surrounding factors, such as arthritis, spinal stenosis or other disc involvement.

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Focus on recovery from your procedure, reduction of post-procedure pain & residual symptoms and improvement of function. Many factors go into "return to play" decisions. Your surgeon will hopefully guide through this process. If cleared to golf, then working with a physical therapist with an interest/expertise in treating golfers may be helpful.
