No set time: There is no real set time frame that one can refer to prior to nursing a baby. While you smoke, there are particulates from your smoke that can deposit on your clothes and be passively transmitted onto the baby. That can cause respiratory issues in babies. Studies have shown the risk of sudden infant death syndrome is greater in household with smokers.

12 hours: Alcohol and tobacco by products can take up to 12 hours to completely be removed from the breastmilk. Make sure you pump 2-3 times and throw away the milk in order to remove the chance that the breastmilk is contaminated with nicotine and alcohol.

Many ways: Cannabis is one of those drugs that produce problems for babies however they are exposed.It is transferred in breast milk & can produce sedation, weakness & poor feeding.It can drop milk production for mom. Long them head growth in baby is impaired but the effect on development is unknown. Smoking itself increases risk of crib death & frequency of infections. You give this up to be a mom.

Possibly: Pot has many potential carcinogens and pesticides along with other chemicals which can be dangerous to you or the baby. Doctors do not routinely test babies for thc (active ingredient of marijuana), but they may be concerned if the baby's development is delayed.  Just give up for the time you are breast feeding.
