Unlikely: But please be careful.  It is rare to develop TSS, but always use caution to change tampons regularly.

Tampon: Yes.  May have absorbed excess fluid.  Could still have more bleeding.  Would still wear a light mini- pad.

Irregular bleeding: Irregular periods are one of the most common problems obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections ;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

i took monistat 1 last night at 11:30pm. i have started my period and struggle with using pads. may i use a regular sized tampon?

Yes: It's okay to use a tampon after using Monostat, just know it may not have had time to treat the yeast infection and you may have to retreat after the cycle is over

i started my period for the first time in 4 months bc im on the depo shot. ive bleed thru over 20 regular tampons in the last 3 hours. im extremely weak and dizzy and ive fainting twice. should i go to the er?

: That is quite a bit of bleeding and, given your symptoms, you probably should get evaluated in the emergency room. They can get some labs on you and have a gynecologist evaluate you as well. So, yes, go to the nearest ER. Good luck!

8 hours: It is recommended that you do not keep any tampon in for more than 8 hours. if it's going to longer before you are able to change it! you should use a pad instead.

Normal: The difference between a 4 day period and a 5 day period is not significant. It is normal to have some small variation in length. I don't think that this is due to your choice of pads vs. tampons. If you are actually on DepoProvera as your information says, that is much more likely to account for variation.

Menorrhagia: If it happens once, not a big deal.  If this is happening recurrently through your cycle, add a pad or go with super or super plus tampon and call your GYN for an appointment.  Heavy bleeding and/or skipped menses are common in women in their 40's.  Talk to your GYN about options to treat the heavy periods (menorrhagia)

Tampon longevity: Tampons, like  diapers, need to be changed frequently when soiled or a serious "rash"(oxic shock syndrome) can occur. This is not the place to save money on disposable products. Better "red" than "dead".
