7-10 Days: Many one year olds with cough with a cold for a week or so. If the coughs is severe (disrupting sleep, associated with fever >102, or limiting activity) i would go to the pediatrician. No over the counter medications work that well in this age group. Your pediatrician may prescribe antibiotics for an ear infection, bronchitis, or pneumonia; or a trial of an inhaled medication for wheeze.

Dehydration: You will recover from the cough and cold. The concern is you will become dehydrated if you are vomiting after you eat for one week. Please consult a clinician who can assess you for hydration. You may need intravenous fluids or something to help you to stop vomiting. Get well soon.

Not recommended: Research has shown that cough and cold medicines offer little benefit to young children and can have serious side effects.  Children's Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (ibuprofen) can help with pain and discomfort, while a vaporizer or time in the bathroom with the hot shower running can loosen congestion and help with cough.  Saline nasal spray can help with a runny nose.

Cold for a month????: Sounds like your child is suffering from allergies. Seek help from an allergy specialist/ pulmonologist in your area. Some ents extend their services to cover allergies too.

Ear : Ear infections are very common after a cold or virus.  As his ear is hurting and he is in pain please have him seen immediately.  Ear infections are so painful, i hope he feels better soon.

Take her back: Obviously whatever treatment they gave her did not work completely, call the doctor and let them know she is still sick. Also try using a saline nasal spray to help her congestion.

Not a cold: Colds don't last 3 weeks you have something else.  It sounds like hay fever allergies with post nasal drip.  Tell your cheap mom you need to be checked out by your md.

Finished?: Have you finished your antibiotic course or are you still taking them? If you are finished but continue to see no improvement in your symptoms, it is either a resistant organism and a different antibiotic is needed or if you are somewhat better but not back to normal this can be normal as the cough often comes towards the end of an illness while all the mucous is draining.

i am a female doc having a one year old kid. i have to take care of swine flu positive cases. whats the risk to my baby. should i give tamiflu (oseltamivir) to him.

Get a flu shot: Your child should be immunized against the flu. If you child is one year old she should have two flu shots given one month apart. Barring that you should wash your hands with soap and water before handling your child. Recent recommendations have lowered the age for giving tamiflu, (oseltamivir) so it's an open question if you want to give it prophylactic ally.
