Thyroiditis symptoms: In classic subacute thyroiditis, the neck is tender, thyroid is inflammed, and the hyperthyroid phase is several weeks to 1 month. People often don't notice it. But other forms of thyroiditis (painless, hashimoto's) can last longer. See your endocrinologist.  If the hyperthyroid phase is long, you may have "hashitoxicosis", which is an overlap with graves disease.

Lifetime: Hashimotos is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the thyroid. It rarely resolves spontaneously. The typical case causes enlargement (or goiter) early on, then as the destruction of the thyroid progresses the thyroid slowly shrinks until it is very small later in life. Most patients will require lifelong thyroid supplementation.

Usually 2-6 weeks: Thyroiditis is inflammation of the thyroid gland, resulting in stored thyroid hormone(TH)  leaking into the bloodstream faster than normal release of TH, so that TH levels are higher than normal.  It can follow a viral infection or come after a pregnancy.  There can be a hypothyroid phase later, but thyroiditis almost always resolves, leaving the thyroid working normally.

Go to your doc: If it is inflamed it may be a recurrence of the thyroiditis and you may need prescription meds to manage it. Contact your treating doc without delay &amp; follow their instructions.
