i know this may sound weird but i was out sick with the stomach flu for four days.now work is requiring a note to come back from a doctor. is that something i can do here?

No: If you have a primary that knows you or one that you called about this condition then they would be best suited for a letter. No doctor on a forum like this would write a letter saying that so and so was out for four days with stomach flu having no previous exam during your illness. Try and tell the office that you had a stomach virus you were to ill to go to work but not enough to require an MD

Your Immune System: Most stomach illness are caused by viruses that your body's immune system will fight off.  The "out of your" system philosophy may come from advice by medical professionals not to treat diarrhea aggressivley.  This recommendation is not made because the diarrhea "gets it out of your system" but rather because of side effects of some of those anti-diarrhea medicines.

Varies: The oral secretions of a patient are not considered contagious after the fever has disappeared. The virus can be shed in the stool for another 4-6 wks.

: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your lipase level while slightly elevated is not at a level to be diagnostic of pancreatitis. You lab tests and symptoms could be due to a viral infection.    Wish you good health!

Gastroenteritis: The length of time you are contagious with stomach varies depending which virus is the cause. Usually the period lasts from several days to 2 weeks.  Would not return to work when febrile.

You need to: start with a "booking" with your G.P (Family Physician, PCP ( FIRST) an after a history and possibly an examination the necessity for testing can be discussed.

Accepted Answer

No: People with viral infections are generally contagious even before significant symptoms appear. The duration other illnesses is obviously going to vary based on what virus is infecting them and therefore it's going to be different the length that they're going to be contagious.  So I can't really give you specifics unfortunately.
