Genital herpes: Primary (first episode) genital herpes can be much more severe than episodes with relapse in the future (if they occur).  Ulcers can be associated with pain on urination and can precipitate urinary retention.  Appropriate antiviral treatment with Acyclovir or valacyclovir should help healing.

Wouldn't show up.: Unfortunately, genital herpes would not show up on a urine culture.  There are blood antibody tests available, but they would take at least six weeks from the day of exposure even be slightly positive.

Very unlikely: Transfer of HSV infection to another part of the body (auto-inoculation) sometimes occurs during the first few weeks after catching the virus. Once someone has had genital or oral herpes more than 2-3 months, auto-inoculation is very rare. Use common sense hygiene, i.e. wash hands after toilet, and limit hand contact with face/eyes during genital herpes outbreaks. Otherwise no worries about it.
