Yes: I gather you mean flexible sigmoidoscopy. If you afre not cleaned out, let the gastroenterologist know to re-schedule. He will not be able to see anything unless you are cleaned out.

Good bowel regimen: Long term laxative use is not recommended . The goal is to have consistent bowel movements without having to rely on laxatives . You can begin by taking miralax (polyethylene glycol) twice daily , once you begin having consistent bowel movements you can taper off to once daily or as needed .  The goal would be to aim for soft bowel movements that do not require straining

Ultrasound: There are few things that cause upper abdominal pain in a healthy young person. Gallstones is one of them and can easily be identified on ultrasound. Also, it may provide a clue to look in other places.

: In general constipation responds to life style changes, including dietary adjustments, proper hydration and regular physical exercise. Other types are refractory and medical attention may be needed in trying to rule out medical conditions that might need to be addressed. Laxatives may be needed and best to use if so recommended by your medical professional.

No: Don't stop the laxative.  While you are taking the medication you will need the laxative.  You could get in trouble if the constipation gets severe.
