Drainage: In most cases a simple incision and drainage can be done in the office. A needle can be used as well. Once the infection resolves, surgery may not be necessary in many cases. Doing surgery early often leads to unnecessary breast tissue being removed and deformity.  Speak to your surgeon to find out what the plan is to be.

Periductal Mastitis: Periductal mastitis is a chronic infection of the nipple ducts that often requires excision of the affected duct and secondary healing. This is associated w/smoking; in my experience, the outcome is poor w/o quitting. This is very different from mastitis associated with breast feeding, which does not require surgical treatment (responsive to antibiotics).

Prognosis is Stage-b: The prognosis of breast Cancer is dependent on stage of her Cancer at the time of diagnosis. Most breast cancers are stage-1 or 2 and patients do very well, living near normal lives. Check in case she had stage-3 cancer....which does carry risk for recurrence in the future. Not much time: Depending on the size, in most cases you should be able to recover within 24 to 48 hours after the procedure.

Less than 1 week.: Surgical removal of a breast lump is an out-patient procedure that can usually be done under twilight anesthesia.  Most people don't require narcotic pain medication and can return to normal activities within one week.

Usually not needed : Usually, an outpatient breast biopsy is not painful.  Typically Ibuprofen is enough for pain control. Returning to work the next day is not uncommon.

Absolutely. : Absolutely.  In fact, the areola diameter is nearly always reduced during a breast lift or breast reduction surgery.  However, over time, the areola size and shape may change.  The areola nearly always stretch back to a larger size.  This is highly dependent on the quality of your skin, and since you are considering a lift, that means that your skin has the propensity to stretch.

Days: The majority of the initial swelling will diminish over the course of a few days.  However, you will still have some residual swelling that could take several weeks to go away completely. If you are having increased swelling or long term residual swelling, then i recommend going to see your board certified plastic surgeon for a post-op exam.
