Deeper gouges, especially if there is residual sand or debris inside, take longer . . . Maybe 3 weeks. Wounds with debris may get infected, so close follow-up with the doctor is important. Also, a tetanus booster shot may be needed.

DR???: Did you go to ER or see a DR?? Shower or bath, rinse off daily. Any dirt ground into skin? Sounds like you will be grounded about a week. Keep lubricated. Vaseline or Aquaphor are good. Road Rash: Ouch... Road rash is basically a very bad burn and peeling away of layers of skin due to sliding across concrete. A small one may be treated with neosporin but a large one should be evaluated by a physician. Goal is to enhance healing, reduce pain and prevent infection. Good luck!

i have road rash on my left thigh from a bike accident that is 2 weeks old.  i've recently developed a red bumps all along my leg.  the road rash is red and tender to the touch. should i be concerned?

Road rash: Road rash is usually a self limited problem and rarely requires a doctors visit.  The development of red bumps changes things.  I would see your doctor to ensure you haven't developed an infection.
