i have had a swollen lymph node for almost a year i had my gp take a look at it we had an ultrasound done and some blood work and i went to a head/neck doctor that took a look at my scans both said it was nothing but its still swollen should i worry?

: Reactive lymph node may not diminish in size over the time. If you have been examined by 2 doctors and ultrasound was also done then you have nothing to worry. Take care.

Pharyngitis: If this was bacterial it should have begun to resolve, unless you have secondary yeast infection developing.  If this was viral, Cefdinir is not going to be effective.

how long does it take for swollen lymph nodes to go away from a throat infection? i just started taking amoxicillin today and wondering when the swelling will reduce and how long for symptoms to be gone?

: It is variable and may take months for lymph nodes to return to normal size. Following the resolution of infection, You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. : The majority of throat infections in adults are viral and selfheal. Strep in adults will usually improve without antibiotic treatment, leaving the main risks transfer to vulnerable populations and the subset (1/200) of people that will develop heart/kidney and brain disorders weeks later when it goes untreated.

Hello. : Hello. You indicated that you gained 30 pounds in one week - usually that rapid a weight gain is due to fluid retention.  The swelling of your lower extremities helps to support that idea. I don't know if the blood work, and ultrasounds were done before or after that weight gain.  Even if a definitive cause is not known, your doctor should be able to help diuress some of that fluid (if that is infact what it is). I am a psychiatrist, so i can not provide you with a second opinion. However, if you had not yet had that level of weight gain, please get this reassessed by your provider. Also ask about help to reduce the fluid that is being retained in your lower extremities. In the meantime, you may wish to sit with your legs propped up, so that you won't have so much gravitational pull on the fluids.

Yes: Swollen lymph nodes can be tender to the touch for up to two weeks. If they are enlarged and tender after that. It's a good idea to let your doctor take a look.

Depends..: Many infections can linger even after sore throat has resolved. In general most reactive lymph nodes diminish in size after a couple weeks once the agent is gone. Mono, for example can take months....also sometimes lymph nodes get larger but dont go back to the original size. I suggest you see someone if it hasnt gone down 2-3 weeks after improvement in case you need to be examined or tested

Lymphadenopathy: Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is an antibiotic combination that will treat some infections. The swollen lymph node is the body's reaction to an inflammation which may have been the infection you are treating, but how fast it recedes will have little to do with the treatment.
