i take half of a 200mg ibuprofen nighttime capsule at bedtime to help me sleep. is there any harm in doing this? if so, is there an alternative? thx!

See answer: If you only take 100mg a night, and take with some food (so as not to irritate your stomach or increase risk of inflammation), you should be fine.  Overuse/chronic use of any nsaid may eventually cause kidney issues.  This would be less common for a 100mg a day dose. Make sure you see the Dr. regularly and get routine tests (to include your renal function).  Best wishes.

Advil (ibuprofen) effects: Advil (ibuprofen) is used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation.
 Advil (ibuprofen) may cause life-threatening heart or circulation problems such as heart attack or stroke, especially if you use it for long term.
It  may also cause serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding. 
Please do not take advil (ibuprofen)  for no reason.

Limit use: 2400mg maximum of ibuprofen(advil) per day. Acetaminophen(tylenol), no more than 2000mg/day to be relatively safe. There are risks even with lower doses.

will advil (ibuprofen) harm the stomach if i take it with pariet as i have gastritis .. dr has asked me 2 take both says its fine . what your opinion . thanks?

Less likely: Pariet (and similar drugs) do protect the stomach from irritation when taking advil (ibuprofen) or other anti-inflammatory drugs, but it does not mean that you might never have a problem. If you have gastritis and regular advil (ibuprofen) use is necessary, take it with pariet, but always be alert to worsening gastritis symptoms and stop the advil (ibuprofen) immediately. Then contact your doctor for further advice.

i get a lot of headaches from chronic sinusitis. can't take ibuprofen so take tylenol 1000-2000mg per day everyday. will this harm my liver over time?

Varies: It is now generally recommended that 2000 mg per day is maximal dose to try to decrease likelihood of liver toxicity.  Many people do fine with dosage you are taking.  You just would want your liver functions tested by a simple blood test regularly.

hi my mom had a colonoscopy and egd we were told no to let her take ibuprofen but she did she took two 2hrs ago what will that cause or harm?

Tell the doctor: If she is a chronic ibuprofen user, it can cause her to ooze or bleed more &amp; make the procedure uncomfortable. The doctor wants the cleanest view to see things so that the scope won't irritate the lining or cause small bleeds to not show the tissue well. So, it's up to him to cancel &amp; reschedule with UR mom or not. Often for procedures they want patients to be off of NSAIDS (Ibuprofen) for a week.

Probably not: That is a bit high on two similar drugs termed NSAIDs.  You might experience some stomach upsetness at those levels but no other harm should result from one exposure like you have had.

Advil is ibuprofen: Relatively safe drug as long as you take it as prescribed.

No and No: Ibuprofen's effect on bleeding mostly effects platelets and this has little to do with your period.The "period" is your womb discarding an unfertilized lining ready for a fertilized egg.

my friend accidentally took my propanolol medicine as she thought it was ibuprofen, she took 60mg, would it harm her?

Propranolol: It is a moderately high dose but if your friend is healthy it should be ok, if she has asthma, copd, experiences symptoms of dizziness low blood pressure etc, call your md/911 or go to nearest er if you can safely get there
