Groin strains...: Hip flexor ( or adductor also) strains respond well to immediate ice( 12-24 hrs), ibuprofen( or other otc nonsteroidal antiinflammatory med) and rest.These 'groin strains' often take 4-6 wks to fully heal even in young athletes and are prone to re/ injury if you return to your sport to quickly.You shouldn't require Ibuprofen or other NSAID more than a week.See your primary care physician for exam.

NSAIDs : Nsaids are not a disease modifying medication. They can help with the symptoms however long term NSAID usage can have negative side effects. I hope this helps.

Tendonitis: Tendon inflammation generally responds poorly to oral anti-inflammatories due to the poor blood supply of tendons. Topical ice, splinting, avoiding the offending activitiy and seeing a physical therapist can all be beneficial. Sometimes a steroid injection can also help.

Depends: It really depends on cause.  If it was from an injury or overuse, it should get better quickly; certainly by 4-6 weeks.  If there is something underlying that is causing it, then it may not get better until the cause is addressed.

am 4 months out from flexor tendon surgery on rt. pinky and about 2.5 months out from having splint removed. hand grip strength still quite weak despite 2x/wk pt & at-home exercises. how long does it usually take to regain full/near-full strength?

Diclofenac : Diclofenac is a non steroidal anti inflammatory  medication. Take it 6 to 8 hrs up to three times a day. If it does not improve let the surgeon evaluate it.

Rest, Ice, Compress: Simple rest will help the most. You can apply ice to decrease any acute discomfort and help diminish the swelling. Compression will also make an injured muscle feel better most of the time.

Good question!: This is kind of a controversial topic, because the fcr has a very short excursion as it flexes the wrist. Because repairing the tendon may excessively shorten it and because there is another wrist flexor (fc ulnaris) present, many hand surgeons recommend casting these injuries in about 30º of flexion for 3-4 weeks: the tendon ends will heal together without shortening.
