Good question!: This is kind of a controversial topic, because the fcr has a very short excursion as it flexes the wrist. Because repairing the tendon may excessively shorten it and because there is another wrist flexor (fc ulnaris) present, many hand surgeons recommend casting these injuries in about 30º of flexion for 3-4 weeks: the tendon ends will heal together without shortening.
