Several days: It takes several days for IV ax's to start working. Five days seem a bit short though. May need longer treatment with IV ax's and ax's per oral. Check with your doctor.

Course is 3-5 days.: It of course also depends on the severity of the infection. If one is being given IV Rocephin, (ceftriaxone) the patient probably has more severe infection. One should be feeling better with decreasing fever or improving WBC in 24-48 hours. A typical course is 3 to 5 days but if kidney infection (pyelonephritis) is involved, treatment can be 10-14 days.

In general,: It takes about 48-72 hours for you to have noticeable results from an antibiotics.  If you don't have any improvement after that time period, check back with the doctor to see if there may be an additional infection of some kind.  Good luck!

These are routine: procedures. Takes a minute to clean the skin well, then blood drawing for blood culture is like any blood drawing. Inserting an IV is much like blood drawing. cetriaxone can be infused quickly .. a few minutes. slow drip wouldn't be a great deal different IM is immediate.

Yes: Ceftriaxone/rocephin is a cephalosporin antibiotic.  It is chemically unrelated to sulfa drugs and there is no cross allergenicity.

Probably okay: The medication begins to be cleared from the mothers system shortly after dosing with 1/2 gone by ~ 8 hrs then half again in another 8. By 32 hrs it is considered cleared. The molecule competes with the livers working actions &amp; can result in a bit more jaundice as bilirubin breakdown slows.

Very likely: There's a very small, less than 1% chance of cross-reaction between penicillin and a cephalosporins.  If you had a severe reaction to penicillin, you're more likely to have a severe allergic reaction to anything else. However, I would not hesitate to take ceftriaxone if it is the appropriate medication
