i broke my left radius and ulna about a week ago. how long do you think it would take to heal and does breaking multiple bones make your recovery time longer than usual.

4-6 weeks: Unless you have an underlying condition or the bones are out of line and haven't been realigned post your injury if needed then shouldn't affect healing time - this is where careful followup and fracture clinic attendance will help spot issues if they develop so reduce the chance of this happening.  If specific concerns best to return to the doctor/clinic that originally treated you

Yes: Contusions over bones can take longer to heal. Try ibuprofen.

Yes, 6 weeks: Most fractures are healed by 6 weeks and you should be able to resume normal activities soon thereafter. Most fractures need to be stabilized with a cast or splint.  Post immobilization stiffness may require occupational therapy.

6-8 weeks: Simple fracture of the metacarpal bone takes about 6-8 weeks to heel. That assuming the bone is not out place, our have any complication factors.

Difficult to heal.: Under the best of circumstances, sesamoid bones are difficult to heal. Having said that, it is at times to determine if the sesamoid is actually broken. This is because sesamoids can be in two, three and even more pieces, naturally. It is prudent to x-ray the opposite foot to see if the sesamoids show the same mono, bi, tri or multi partite pattern. If truly fractured, it may need to be removed.

Can take a while: It can take several months but it is possible that it may not heal. It may need to be removed if it is affecting the joint.

Not fractured?: What happened?  If it is a stress fracture then it is fractured.  It will take 8-16 weeks to heal.  Sounds like you need to be reevaluated.  See your doctor (Foot Doctor).

Metal/fracture/digit: Usually 6 weeks to 3 months. Best to ask the surgeon who inserted the plate....
