Consider a repeat: Mri, this time with and without contrast.  You could also get a pet scan.  Your doctor who ordered the MRI could help guide the next step. So can an orthopedic doctor or neurosurgeon.

Neurosurgeon: I feel that a neurosurgeon is best qualified to evaluate you and he will review your images with the radiologist. A hemangioma is a growth of blood vessels and occur in various parts of the body. Something appears to be pressing on a nerve root coming out of the spine(like a disk).

Depends on exact: Location of hemangioma, but get an opinion from a neurosurgeon if your doctor thinks hemangioma is cause of your pain.

i recently discovered that i have a 2.5cm hemangioma in my liver after having a pre-cancer mucinous ovarian tumor last year. should i have surgery?

Monitor: Hemangiomas are benign.  A 2.5 cm hemangioma is small (about 1 inch).  Monito periodically.

4 months postpartum and currently breastfeeding. just diagnosed with 6 benign hepatic hemangiomas, the largest is 5.6 cm. i also have elevated alkaline phosphatase levels on last two liver panels. normal cbc levels,what could be causing the high alp?

: How high? All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, elevated ALP can come from liver and/or bone. It would have helped had you provided the actual results. It is not due to hemangiomas. Propranolol: Propranolol is the most effective way to get rid of hemangiomas of infancy.  Other methods are laser, steroids, surgery, and other medications.

are follow up scans usually necessary for atypical hepatic hemangiomas?

Accepted Answer

Yes: If something is considered atypical , we must prove that it is not something more serious, this can sometimes be done by performing other types of imaging examinations and sometimes following the findings is the best option.
