hubby had sinus op yesterday & discharged today. in surgery he had heavy bleeding and doc inserted a tampon in his nose. he is at home but the tampon is full and heavy and irritating him. can we take it out & insert a new. she will only see him mon?

: Removal of the nasal tampon may start excessive nasal bleeding again. Go to an emergency room for possible removal and reinsertion of a fresh tampon.

Septoplasty healing: After eight months status post sinus surgery and septoplasty, you should be healed.  If you are still having trouble breathing, perhaps there is a persistent deviation or if your turbinates were not worked on that may be contributing to your symptoms.

is it safe to take things like zyrtec if you've recently had sinus surgery & are experiencing head congestion & coughs from post nasal drip?

Yes: Yes, but it may not help unless the symptoms are due to allergy.

Sinus surgery : Everyone is different in their recovery from sinus surgery. However, it is common for healing to continue for up to three months. I always tell my patients there may be some residual issues during that time period. You just need to follow the postop instructions. Saline lavage is the most important thing you can do to speed your recovery. Good luck!

Be careful!: Blowing your nose within 10 days of sinus surgery can cause bleeding.  There is also a remote chance of pushing air into your eye socket.  Bleeding is the biggest risk.

Call your surgeon: or go to the same hospital you had the surgery done, you need to be examined, or advised by the same surgeon/ his team, good luck

Nasal polyps: Oral steroids can shrink polyps, but it is usually temporary.  However, many of my patients come to me 2-3 times yearly for steroids, and they are to manage to avoid surgery.  If steroids don't help much, surgery would be the next logical step.

my nose is growing big day by day.it looks so weird...i had a small nose before 4 years.i did sinus surgery before 4 years.is it possible to stop it?

See your doctor: To be treated appropriately, you need to know the cause of this.  Why is it growing?  Is it infection, scar tissues, pimple?  See your pcp to have this evaluated.  Otherwise, see the surgeon who did the sinus surgery to see if he/she has any idea.  There is a hormonal problem called acromegaly that can cause dispropotionate growth.  A blood test can rule this out.  Your pcp can order this for you.

Runny nose: Depends how long ago since you had the septoplasty. Be patient adn go back to your surgeon if it didn't improve over the coming weeks.

Balloon Sinuplasty: Balloon sinuplasty is a procedure for chronic sinusitis patients who are not responding well to medication. Unlike other surgical procedures used to treat sinusitis, with balloon sinuplasty, the surgeon does not remove bone or tissue from the nasal area.  It’s a less invasive alternative to typical sinus surgeries. The recovery period is usually only a few days, compared to a few weeks.
