Stomach "flu": (viral) usually last 24-48 hours. Keep baby hydrated with sips of pedialyte/formula/
watered down juice. Since she's playful, symptoms should rapidly subside. Bacterial gastroenteritis' symptoms may be more severe & last longer so that medical intervention may be needed to prevent dehydration. Braty diet (banana, rice, applesauce, toast, yogurt) may help, too.

Depends: Everyone is different, and react to illnessess differently too.  The norovirus is more virulent, and may cause you to be feeling week for 3-7 days.  If you are generally healthy, keep your fluids and electrolytes up, slowly get back to a normal diet, and you should start feeling better in the next day or two.  If not beter after 7 days, see your dr. For an evaluation to be safe.  Good luck.

Formula should be: stopped for 24 hrs at onset of diarrhea and baby should be switched to pedialyte only.The following day,dilute formula by 1/2-1/3,as tolerated.The next day advance to nl formula.If diarrhea persists,see pediatrician.Remember,to encourage as much pedialyte as possible.If baby stops urinating,this is a sign of significant dehydration,and U must have the baby seen immediately.Good luck

Diarrhea May Persist: Vomiting is typically prominent early in illness followed by diarrhea.  Avoid high sugar fluids like milk and juice while having diarrhea.  Try to eat high calorie diet while avoiding high fat, spicy/acidic foods.  It can take several days to rebuild the gut lining and see complete resolution of the diarrhea.  Probiotics can be used to restore normal gut flora and sometimes shorten course of diarr.

You : You may be dealing with a bacterial infectious process. For this you will need antibiotics. Your doctor may want to do some tests of your stool to check for certain pathogens prior to treatment. In the meantime maintain hydration and eat a bland diet until you improve.
