Not contagious: Staph is part of the normal bacteria that reside on our skin. If someone gets a staph infection, it's because there was a breach of the normal body defense mechanisms, such as a wound, surgery, immune deficiency, etc.  Healthy people do not get infected from someone who has a staph infection.

Eczema can become secondarily infected with staphylococcus as it is a skin organism and the eczema represents breaks in our normal protection system of the skin.  Staph is very contageous.  It can be spread person-person, in foods and grom fomite (inanimage object) to human.  Good handwashing prevents spread.

Nonetheless, and especially with certain kinds of staph, it is prudent to wash your hands whenever in contact with an infected person as the same staph may be present on the person's skin that is in the urine.

Yes and no: They are full of staph aureus bacteria, we are exposed to this all day long. That said if you burst this and someone gets it on their hands and into a cut they will have the potential to become infected. Best to keep it bandages and stay away from susceptible people like the old and very young

Its safe: Yes..its safe.  Believe it or not..most people nowadays are colonized with what you would refer to as "regular" staph...and many of us even MRSA.  Just use universal precautions and hand washing.
