Depends: It depends on the type of test. Antibody tests can be completed the same day. Nucleic acid tests may take longer, depending on the frequency with which the lab does the test. Call you doctor if it has been a couple of days since the blood was taken for testing.

Depends on the Lab: Antibody to hep b and even the dna tests for hep b can be done the day the sample is collected. However, the labs sometimes batch the tests and in that case the results would be avilable the day the lab runs the test.

Yes: Your doctor will check viral load to see if you still have hcv or had it and cleared the virus. Sometimes the test can be a false positive.

: There have been few if any scientifically documented cases of HIV transmission oral to penis or by cunnilingus (oral-vaginal contact), so you were not at risk. Your HIV blood test is conclusively negative, and your other tests are conclusive as well. You had a safe exposure and were not infected with any of the infections for which you were tested.

It's possible: A false negative test for Hepatitis C is possible.   False negative occurs during what’s known as the “window period" which is the time after infection but before the immune system has developed antibodies. During this period, because there is no antibody to detect, the ELISA test will be negative. But an RNA test will identify the presence of the virus.

Depends on the test: What was the encounter? Did you lick the woman or did she suck you, or did you suck a man. In any case, you may wait about 6 months before getting tested, unless you get jaundice before that.

Treatment helps: Unfortunately, there is no definitive cure for chronic hepatitis B: by definition, a chronic disease lasts more than 6 months and shows various levels of activity (liver damage). Appropriate treatment is aimed at making the liver damage as little as possible (inactive disease or one with low activity). Your may live a relatively normal live as long as the disease is under such control.

Recheck soon: Hoping you are better. These drop as you feel better, rather than in a time course. As a pathologist, for me "the person" takes precedence over "the numbers". If the lft's are still up, seek another cause (hepatitis b or c, hemochromatosis, wilson's, medication, alcohol, metabolic syndrome).

today, my dad was told by a doctor that he's a hepatitis b carrier. previously, we all were told by multiple docs that he just had immunity to it. don't have detailed blood test results yet. do we need a second opinion? should we all get tested?

: The only way to know if he is a carrier or immune, from a vaccine, for example, is to see the results of the blood tests. If the blood tests simply shows immunity, the rest of you would not need testing. If a carrier, you may want to be tested but it depends on the blood test results. There are liver specialists who can help with this diagnosis. So, see a liver specialist to make this diagnosis.
