No not really: you need to talk with your surgeon and inform them of this. This is NOT normal!!

i know this is going to sound insane but i have had bloody stool for a few years now. what is this. too afraid for doctors visit also no longer having regular bowel movements. it looks like balls of puss when i try to have a bowel movement and it smells.

You : You definitely need to see a doctor right away. Blood in the stool is often just hemorrhoids or something minor like that. But sometimes in can be something much worse that needs to be diagnosed without delay.

Body changes: Dietary changes and digestive changes can change the consistency of stool. As we age changes in the anus can also occur. If you are concerned consider seeing a colorectal surgeon who can do an exam and make sure all is normal.

Change in bowels: Change in bowels is a red-flag to doctors-- this includes alteration in stool texture, altered ease or completeness of elimination, frequency of stooling, occult bleeding, etc. Risk factors, co-morbidities, changes in activity/stress/diet, metabolic factors (diabetes, low thyroid) must be considered.  It may be nothing serious, but medical evaluation is recommended & will likely prove reassuring.

how much longer will my bowel movements remain soft and thin after finishing a 5-day zpack 3 weeks ago?  do i need to return to the doctor?

Accepted Answer

Possible c.diff: You could develop c.Diff from anitibiotic use.  A zpak could kill good bacteria in your colon. Sometimes probiotics can help to restore the good bacteria. Otherwise you may need to return to your doctor for stool testing.

ive been bloated since my last menstrual, ive also been having issues with my bowel movements. ive used warm water enema since young, no longer helps ?

Constipation: You may have a slow colon. This can result from chronic usage of senna or cascara compounds or other causes like thyroid disorders or diabetes. To find this out you can do an X-ray test called colonic sitzmarker testing or a Smartpill. If the colon is slow, you will likely need prescription medications like miralax, lactulose plus amitiza (lubiprostone) or linzess. I'd recommend the testing first.

could you please shed light on brain gut axis, connection. can stress/anxiety affect the bowels? can it cause bowel movements to look to vary daily? depending on the day it's bigger, smaller, longer, shorter, softer, firmer?

: Stress/anxiety can affect the bowels-sometimes you can even have diarrhea due to stress/anxiety. The shape/size of the stool can also be affected by the food you are eating-this can also affect the stool’s color. If there is a significant change in your stools, you should be evaluated by a doctor. Good luck!

Get evaluated!: At 18,  these are unusual complaints.

I am concerned that you have a significant nerve compression,  especially with the low back pain with standing,  and the bladder and bowel inconsistency.

Please get this evaluated by a physician immediately.

The issue is more...: More teamwork and evaluation with the primary care and gastrointestinal doctors are needed. A person with constipation needs to be sure there is no other disease causing it. If constipation is just due to slow movement of the food and poop through the gut, then the things to try are exercise, vegetables, prune juice, laxatives, etc. Colonoscopy may be needed. Doctor may try Linzess or Amitiza.

Depend on cause: If you have experienced a spinal cord injury, you should contact your doctor  for bowel & bladder management techniques. If this is secondary to medication, a change of medication may be helpful. The drinking of plentiful liquids, eating a high fiber diet may helpful. The use of prescription or otc stool softness and laxatives may help. Daily exercises may serve as a stimulant.
