how long after you get a wound that requires stitches can you actually wait to get stitches?

Depends: It is usually best to be seen right away.  If the wound is clean or cleaned up, and depending on the locatin on the body, some physicians will allow up to 12 hours.  Some longer.  If the wound is dirty, a puncture or contaminated, get seen right away.  There should be very few reasons to delay closure of a wound.  Be very careful and cautions and err on the side of immediacy.

eyebrow shaved by razor 2 months ago to stitch wound and the hair growth again but not like before , so how long shall i wait till get it as usual?

Accepted Answer

First,: Shaving eyebrows or any hair for that matter is not recommended for wound closure.  Trimming is the acceptable method.  Second, the new eyebrow will grow only very very slowly and may or may not resemble the un-shaved eyebrow.  It may take up to a year.

Ask your surgeon: You should have received wound care instructions and activity restrictions from your surgeon.  Every surgeon tends to have his own specific post op care routine that can vary from patient to patient for several reasons.  I do not have enough information to guide you appropriately.

6 to 24 hours: The risk of developing infection in a wound that is sutured (stiched) begins to rise when the suture repair is delayed more than 6 hours and rises dramatically after 12 hours. Most emergency physicians will not attempt to close a wound after 24 hrs unless the wound is very large or there are cosmetic issues such as with facial wounds.

hello, i cut myself on may 15 and received stitches. wound is healed, am i still at risk for tetanus and should get shot? help please.

OunceofPrevention..: You are not at risk for tetanus from the injury in May, but if it's been more than 10 yrs since your last booster then it is recommended that you get the booster to protect you from future exposures.

Until dissolve: If they are outside your mouth and exposed to the water, wait until they dissolve. Otherwise your wound may reopen or heal improperly. Good Luck.

Your OB: Should evaluate and exonerate you.  You may have some abnormal scarring.

Paramedics: Are not authorized (though some certainly are capable) of suturing wounds.  That is the territory of physicians and their authorized and appropriately trained mid-level  providers.
