Variable: Many factors influence how long dilating drops remain active after instilled. These include how "strong" a drop was used, how sensitive the patient is to the drop, color of the eyes (blue usually stay dilated longer), and other factors. Most dilating drops used for diagnostic purposes in the office wear off after 4-24 hours. Patients often are sensitive to light, and may have trouble reading.

Not likely!: Depending on the dilating agent used, it can last from 4 hours to over a week!  the pupil dilation is one part and the inability to focus a separate part.  People with light colored eyes can have the pupil dilation last for much longer period of time.  Next time you see the eye doctor ask then to only use tropicamide once (no need for a second drop or a second application).

Common: This depends upon the amount of the drop that was absorbed, and the internal biochemical neutralizing that the eye accomplishes.  Wait 12-24 hours to see the final result which almost certainly will be fine.

: You probably do not have any illness. Pupil sizes vary among people. . It would be prudent to see your doctor to see if you may be depressed. Depression is treatable. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!

Confused: The pupil becomes smaller in bright light.  Dilation is when the pupil increases in size.  This occurs in dim light or when you are frightened.

It's your refractive: error and that's why glasses correct your vision to make up this difference. Without glasses, you may end up with eye strain, headache, dizziness and need to rest. So wear your glasses!
