i was given metronidazole and doxycycline for my pid. will those cure my uti/bladder infection as well?

Accepted Answer

No.: Doxy/metro have no effect on utis; you should probably take some Nitrofurantoin or a cephalosporin, or Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for that. Talk to your doctor!

ear infection not improving on doxycycline, dr suggested prednisone, however, i now have a uti. is it safe to start pred?

It's complicated...: First, I am skeptical you developed a UTI while taking doxycycline, which is active against the large majority of UTI bacteria. Vaginal yeast infections can be triggered by doxy -- maybe that's it. Prednisone would be fine for your ear, but can make yeast infections worse. All in all a complex situation. You'll need to rely on your doctor to work it out. Good luck!

been prescribed azythromycin doxycycline 15 days and bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) 15 days. sinus infection and uti. i'm not using all these. which is best for both?

i'm on entresto, metoprolol, an lasix for heart failure, was recently prescribed macrobid for uti and now i have a tooth infection which i have doxycycline for is it ok to take them both together or should i wait the 5 days til macrobid is done?

: You could ask your doctor if the urine culture is sensitive to doxycycline and then switch to doxycycline alone if it is. If you need to take both antibiotics together, watch for diarrhea as this is a potential side effect of taking both antibiotics at the same time. Good luck!

Wrong drugs: Flagyl would do nothing to treat a uti, and Doxycycline would not be a typical choice, either.  Flagyl treats trichomonas, and Doxycycline treats chlamydia, but this would not be a good combination for a uti.

meant to say the pain started suddenly. saw doctor yesterday and they did a. ecg which was clear. but found urinary infection. but the pain in my arm is  too much and worse today despite taking mydpain ?

Arm pain: Since the arm pain has worsened and can't be explained by a urinary infection, I feel you should be reexamined. The severe pain could be caused by a primary inflammation of a nerve in the arm or if a joint(elbow,shoulder) from acute tendinitis which is worsened by motion of the involved joint. Associated sweats, nausea, shortness of breath, chest discomfort would  suggest cardiac origin.

Uti: if you have 15 to 20 wbcs on urinalysis most likely you have a urinary tract infection and will need a urine culture

Systemic symptoms?: The # of white cells in the urine does'mt tell severity.  The most important thing is whether or not the infection has passed from a urethritis (end of the urinary tract), a cystitis (bladder infection), a pyelonephritis (kidney infection) especially if the organisms spill into the blood, or abscess.  Fever, back pain, low bp, fast pulse, ability to eat/drink are much more important factors.
